The beaches
Preá and Tatajuba are two beautiful beach destinations located in the northeastern part of Brazil, in the state of Ceará. They are known for their natural beauty, isolated charm, and outdoor activities like kitesurfing and dune buggy rides.
Preá Beach (Praia do Preá)
Located about 12 km east of Jericoacoara, a popular tourist town, Preá is a quieter, more laid-back alternative to Jericoacoara. It’s popular with kitesurfers due to strong winds, especially between July and January. It's less developed than Jericoacoara, which gives it a more off-the-beaten-path feel, with fewer tourists.
The beach is famous worldwide for kitesurfing, offering excellent conditions for both beginners and professionals.
Preá has a peaceful atmosphere, with pristine sands and fewer crowds. Visitors can explore nearby sand dunes, lagoons, and mangroves.
There are several charming eco-lodges and pousadas (small inns) offering a range of accommodations. While the infrastructure is more rustic compared to larger destinations, it adds to the appeal for those looking for a more authentic experience.
Tatajuba Beach (Praia de Tatajuba)
Approximately 25 km west of Jericoacoara, Tatajuba is part of the Jericoacoara National Park area, Tatajuba is more remote and even less developed than Preá, providing a true escape into nature. The area is known for its large sand dunes, freshwater lagoons, and an incredibly picturesque, tranquil setting.
Popular tours take visitors through the dunes, offering stunning views and access to hidden lagoons like Lagoa Grande. Tourists can slide down the dunes for fun. Tatajuba's freshwater lagoons, especially Lagoa Verde and Lagoa Grande, are perfect for swimming and relaxing in hammocks suspended over the water.Traditional fishermen offer boat trips on the Tatajuba River, providing a chance to see seahorses and other local wildlife. It’s much more rustic than Preá or Jericoacoara. Most of the accommodations and restaurants are small, family-run, and eco-friendly, maintaining the area's untouched feel.
Both beaches attract travelers seeking natural beauty and a more peaceful, nature-immersed experience compared to the bustling Jericoacoara.
